My Speech and My Reflection

Why Everyone Should Play an Instrument! - Sameer

Kia Ora koutou, ko Sameer toku Ingoa, No reira tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa!

Hello Everyone! Today I will be discussing “ Why Everyone Should Play An Instrument”
Now,

You guys are probably wondering “Ugh another instrument/music talk this will be very boring…”

But I will be proving to you that this will not be boring and that this will be very interesting! I think…..Just kidding it will be interesting!

And my goal is by the end of this speech you will be inspired to start learning an instrument!

First off,  if you are bad at playing an instrument don’t worry as learning an instrument is exactly like learning a new language… It will be difficult and with enough practice , ou will be a master at it!

*Cough* Like I am. Uh um… On with the speech

You’re still possibly thinking but why do we need to play an instrument?
Can’t we just learn a new language instead? Well you can learn a new language if you want but I will be talking about the benefits of learning an instrument!

First things first Learning an Instrument will not only make you excellent at music but it can help you out as you grow older! Trust me.

when you are playing an instrument the neurons in your brain start working much faster, they also slowly become healthier and stronger since you are constantly training it and always thinking of what to do next!

Scientists say that playing some instruments can actually make our fingers and mind stronger so at least thats proven!

And Now you guys are probably getting bored because I am getting all sciencey and Serious but just… hang in there.. PLEASE.

An Amazing thing is, when you play an instrument you can develop the skills by the names of Multitasking and Eye to finger coordination which means your brain can do more than one thing at a time and keep track of both!

For example if you were playing piano you would most likely play with two hands and if you don't know how to multitask you might have trouble figuring out your timing

and you will eventually start to sound bad! same goes with guitar, ukulele,Drums And other instruments!

What’s good about playing an instrument is that you can have fun because I mean, who doesn't love to playing some sweet music and also get your brain stronger by doing so!

Now I will be telling you guys a little bit about what it’s like learning an instrument!
I had fully started learning guitar this year and I have been fully committed into practicing at least half an hour to an hour a day! Learning will be hard and there will be many challenges but by practicing you can eventually overcome them, I myself have faced this challenges in learning certain songs and have felt rather disappointed at times but as I said keep working it...It will get better!

Any instrument can be learnable as long as you are committed and willing to learn

if you would like to get your brain healthier and be able to play music, I strongly encourage you to start playing an instrument and learn about the life of MUSIC and sound absolutely amazing!

I hope I have greatly inspired you and I hope to see you guys playing Instruments in the future.

And For all of you that are learning an instrument good luck to you!

KEEP: I would keep my body gestures and voice because that was really well done in my speech!
ADD:
How would try to validate some of my information in my speech! And say where I got my answers from!
CHANGE: I would try and add some more time into my speech as in work on it more instead of just adding constant ideas in!
CHUCK: I would chuck some of extra info that was not necessary such as the many times that I talked about one topic.

Match with a partner:
Oscar:

Keep: Intro and Third Paragraph Because those were the best!

Change: I would change the whole topic to something different and more interesting so that it would be different from everyone in the class!

Add: I would add more humor that was actually funny.

Chuck: I would chuck all the boring and pointless parts that was not related to the topic.

Algebra Learning From This Term!

This Term lots of kids from room 10 have been learning algebra, We were learning the whole patterns and relationships! We were learning about Spacial and Linear Patterns and what differences they have within them.

We also had learned about creating rules for certain patterns to make it easier to get to a higher term!
(Very quickly) Here is a example:
Image result for linear patterns
Rule For this pattern: Each time it gets up in 1's and so if someone tells you to figure out what the 10th figure would be then instead of counting each and every figure you could just use the rule and say 16! (I know, i'm very smart!).

I look forward to learning more substitution in the future (Hint: I already know a lot :3)

6 Weeks Of Make It Sessions!

For 6 weeks we were doing a type of activity called Edible Arts/Make It Which is basically: every Friday all of Sheppard house will get together and a sort of workshop thing where we would build or create something!

I myself was doing Make it, I  was working with a few others to create a waka made out of Popsicle sticks, Here is our basic plan that we created to make everything run smoothly and so we finish on time!

First 2 weeks: we plan out what how we will build the waka!

Second 2 Weeks: Start Building The main Parts

5th Week: We add designs on!

6th Week: Last minute fixing and Finish!

All Of this went to plan until the 6th Week because our waka (which was basically done) broke.....which was sad but still, it was worth the fun :)

Here are some pics of some of my friends creations of what they had made:

Lime Battery - Electronics

Lime Battery - Electronics!

We wanted to see how a battery worked. We put a zinc nail and a piece of copper into a lime and connected it to a voltmeter.

1 lime= 0.95 volts!
2 limes = 1.96 volts!
3 limes = 2.9 volts!

the three limes we able t light up a LED light!

1 Banana = 9.8 - 1 volts!
Displaying rm 10 002.JPG

Image result for how does it work?
1. Does it depend on the size of the lime? The lime or lemon doesn't matter, what matters is the metals!
2. What if I put more nails and copper in? Yes, it will give more power!
3. Can I use different metals? no, because Zinc and copper are special!

check out this video about the Lemon/lime Battery Experiment

Week 10 Inquiry Part 1: Room 10 Turangawaewae Art Response

Turangawaewae Inquiry Metacognition - The Power Of Reflection
  1. You created 3 pieces of art in class. Which one were you most proud of and why? I was very impressed with my ko wai au art because I think I did an exquisite job on it.
  2. You were asked to submit your very own/individual piece of art that represented you and something you were inspired by. Explain in more detail about this… I did not make my own piece of art!
  3. You learnt some new skills during our term of art - cross hatching, colour composition, Maori motifs, patterns and symmetry. Choose one and explain in more detail exactly what you learnt. One of the art skills I had learned was Tapatoru and Poutama, They are both Maori motifs. Tapatoru is triangular sort of pattern where triangles overlap each other and poutama is basically stairs going upwards.
  4. Our trip around Hawke’s Bay was to inspire us. Describe what your highlight was from this trip and why. The best part of the trip for me was when we went to the Hawke's bay race course and into the art gallery
  5. If we carried out this Turangawaewae Inquiry topic again, what would you change/do differently?
I would change it so that we could do more animation tasks becuz I LOVE ANIMATION!!!
  6. Identify one person's artwork that you are impressed by. Explain why?
I liked lily’s heitiki that she had done because her colour choices were very...WELL COLOURFUL, The colour choices that she had chosen were perfect with the tiki to make it look very cool!

Ko Wai Au Art Response

Ko Wai Au - Reflection/Response
  1. In 3 sentences, describe how you feel about your artwork you created?
I felt absolutely amazed, I had not expected my artwork to look anything like what it turned out to be. Every colour came out perfectly, just as I wanted it to. It can’t get anymore perfect… forme that is.
  1. Describe the colour schemes you chose to use…
I had used cold colours for my koru, Hot colours for my background and once again cold colours for my boarder.

  1. Maori motif and designs were an integral part of this artwork. Describe how you chose to use poutama, tapatoru and koru in your artwork...
I had chosen Tapatoru because I thought it would match up with my koru and the designs very easily!

  1. What is the aspect of your artwork you are most proud of and why? I am most proud of my 3 special things that I had drawn. I think they look fabulous with my art and they fit in perfectly!

  1. If you could change one aspect of your artwork for next time, what would it be and why?

I might change the way I had sketched with my pencil because In the potion bottle you can actually see the pencil marks and that disappoints me.
6. Who is one other person in Rm 10 that you consider did an exemplary job of their artwork? What are your reasons why? I would say Oscar Wilton’s Art!, Not just because he's just my friend but because his colour schemes look very delightful with the way he had drawn the koru and his 3 special things! Go Check out his block! Oscar W @ HNI 10

MY FAVOURITE FREE WRITING PIECE

Hi! This is my favourite free writing piece out of all the free writing we have done for the 6 weeks we have done it for.

Hello! My name is berry the ant, I am a fellow worker ant of the humble queen’s ant colony!
My job is to go and cut down the big leaves and bring them to the builder ants to build into a fungus garden. I am one of the leafcutter ants, the ants that group up together to go and cut down leaves and such. Our queen is safely secured in a special chamber built by the builder workers.she is very special to us because she is the one producing more eggs for future generations. It’s actually quite a scary us ants have because anytime could a predator come and attack us or smash a part of our ant colony, which could resolve in a really bad situation. There are 4 different types of ants in our colony, There is The queen, The builders, The leafcutters and the runners. I haven’t really told you about the runners yet… what they do is very dangerous but good! Once we cut down the leaves of a sapling or plant we will pass the leaves to the runner’s which will carry it to the colony and then it will give to the builder’s and THEN the builders will build the fungus gardens to help contain the colony system.
Ants, unlike humans can carry 20x their own body weight (THAT’S STRONG RIGHT?) which is what helps the runners carry leaves around the place!

That’s all I have to say about the colony and how we live thanks for reading BYE!!!!

Kate Sheppard

Here is my Kate Sheppard research that I had done. I found out lots new facts and that I didn't know before!

We also had to give reason for why our school house colour is called: Sheppard (Because it was named after Kate Sheppard) my reason is that I think we were named Sheppard House because we let others do what they can't do (To Give it a try!) and we also are a role model towards other Houses!!! (like Kate Sheppard).

Room 10 Kids Become Artist!!!

We used an art technique called cross-hatching to create our self portrait this year. This technique creates more of a 3d effect which is what we were wanting rather than just colouring ourselves in. Miss O'B had an A3 black and white photo of us. First we had to colour our pupil, iris and cornea with appropriate colours. We then used 'people crayons' which are made with skin tone colours. Using the two closest colours to our skin tone, we cross hatched our face starting at our forehead and moving down to our neck. The hardest part was our nose.  We then coloured our hair, completed our school uniform and blocked out the background in a vibrant pastel colour so our faces stood out. Also go check out more portraits made by my friends in room 10's other blogs! So what do you think of my self portrait?

What Are Room 10's Super Powers?

This week we were challenged to think about how we could be a helpful citizen in Room 10 and what super powers we could use? If we are going to have a fantastic year, it is crucial we help each other out in times of need, when asked and by using our initiative. Here is a photo of our faces transformed into Super Hero's and a speech bubble with our thinking. On the speech bubble we have identified one super power we are already good at using and another one we want to get better at using. My super powers are: To make people laugh and to help people with technology problems!!
